It was a special day for the Rowley Public Library and its patrons, especially the children, who have been reading books to benefit the adopt a library fund. Inspired by a program launched by the American Library Association, the Rowley Library set a goal to raise $500 for the Centre Culturel Pyepoudre in Port-au-Prince, Haiti which was devastated in the massive earthquake in 2010. The Friends of the Library agreed to provide the funding last spring to make the event possible and both the adult and child readers took to the challenge with gusto.

The library staff wishes to thank all of the patrons who participated. Thanks to their enthusiastic support, Friends President Nancy Judge presented a check for $600 on Sept. 7, to Dr. Em Claire Knowles, assistant dean for Student Services at the Graduate School of Library and Information Science at Simmons College. She accepted the donation on behalf of the ALA. Knowles
